Relief for the singer and composer of the song representing Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Ireland's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest remains unchanged following three days of meetings and discussions with music and legal experts.
The song Dreamin' became more of a nightmare for RTÉ management in recent days.
The song called 'Dreamin' bore striking similarities to a song released in the early 1970s. The question for RTÉ management and legal consultants was whether 'Dreamin' sung by Belfast man Eddie Friel was an original work or a version of 'Moonlight' released by folk singer Julie Felix in the 1970s. In a statement today, Managing Director Organisation and Development at RTÉ, Liam Miller, said that both RTÉ and the composer acknowledged that there were similarities between the two songs. Liam Miller said that it did not fall to RTÉ to take a position on the matter of copyright.
RTÉ believes that our entry to the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest remains unchanged.
There had been speculation that runner up of the National Song Contest Niamh Penston might have to step in to represent Ireland with her song 'Always You'. However, it wasn't to be. Eddie Friel is adamant that the controversy will not take the joy out of the contest for him.
