A special ceremony as Enniscorthy in Wexford is twinned with the French town of Gimont.

The twinning of Enniscorthy with the town of Gimont in the south of France, takes place at a ceremony in the Wexford town. Chairperson of Enniscorthy Urban Council Sean Sheahan welcomes Mayor Gabriel Dubarry and forty of the leading citizens of Gimont.

The formal twinning cements the close relationship built between the towns over the last 12 years through a student holiday scheme.

The French visitors are given a civic reception when they arrive in Enniscorthy. Children from youth organisations form a guard of honour for the occasion. Mayor Gabriel Dubarry meets people from various youth groups, including camogie and hurling players.

The mayor of the French town seemed keenly interested in the Irish sports and even tried a rather unstylish swing with a hurley.

After the ceremony in the town square, there is a parade through Enniscorthy to a local hotel, followed by a champagne reception and dinner.
