Balbriggan in North County Dublin plans to triplet with the American towns of Berlin and Boylston in Massachusetts.
In 1981 the Pride of Balbriggan Marching Band went on an American tour and befriended members of the Tahanto High School Marching Band, who hail from the small Massachusetts towns of Berlin and Boyleston. Out of this friendship a plan was conceived to formally link the towns of Balbriggan, Berlin and Boylston.
Patricia Gallen, chairperson of Balbriggan Town Commissioners visited Berlin and Boylston to personally assess their suitability for linking with Balbriggan.
We just can’t set up something overnight.
Representatives from Berlin and Boylston are paying a reciprocal visit to Balbriggan, and a full programme of events has been planned for them during their eight-day stay in the country.
It is Phillip Bartlett’s first visit to Ireland, and is impressed with what he has seen so far.
Well its one of the most beautiful countries I’ve been in, the people have been marvellous, we haven’t had one minute to rest and we’ve enjoyed everybody that we’ve met over here.
Both of the American towns have committees working on the tripling with Balbriggan and it is expected the required formalities will be completed in early 1984.
