The photographs of Henry Cecil Watson offer an insight into life on Inis Meáin.
Photographs taken by Dublin Quaker Henry Cecil Watson, have been included in a Millennium book dedicated to the people of Inis Meáin. In 1912, Henry Cecil Watson brought his box camera to Inis Meáin to compose his own compelling portrait of the Aran island.
Historian Tom Kenny says that Henry Cecil Watson not only had a very good camera but a great personality which gave him access to the people of the islands.
All of these islanders are actually wonderfully relaxed in front of the camera.
The photographs offer a record of Inis Meáin and its people at the beginning of the 20th century. Henry Cecil Watson's family are delighted to present these images to the people of the island as a millennium tribute.
