Some single people share their experience of the Dublin dating scene.
Singletons Ailish, Eric, Winifred and Ken give their personal experiences of navigating the dating scene in Dublin.
Winifred and Ailish point out that they are happy to be single and are not actively looking for Mr Right. A single woman in the audience wholeheartedly agrees with their lifestyle choice as she socialises to enjoy herself,
I don't particularly want to find a partner because I don’t see the need for one.
Statistics show that in Dublin there are five available women for every available man. Even though the odds are stacked against her, the audience member has learned,
It’s not hard to meet someone in Dublin if you’re going to be sociable.
Ken expresses his views on dating agencies. He thinks they play an important role as approaching a stranger in a pub or club is not always the best way of finding your perfect match.
A single man in the audience also advocates the use of dating agencies pointing out that the match is made on common interests, the potential relationship starts from a more meaningful level. Contrary to popular belief he believes dating agencies offer members an abundance of romance.
Eric is keen to settle down, but experience has led him to consider finding 'the one’ is all down to luck. He works at the family supermarket, Morton’s, in the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh. Describing himself as the ‘friendly grocer’ Eric's job gives him the chance to flirt with customers,
A lot of very nice girls come in and have a good old chat and I get to know them very well.
To test Eric’s flirting technique, 'single and successful' Winifred roleplays a Morton’s customer ordering groceries. Eric responds with some of his previously unsuccessful lines. Winifred approves of Eric’s performance but offers him some advice on how he could be more successful.
Pat Kenny thinks Eric remains a bachelor because he has too many non-negotiables when it comes to his ideal partner,
You’re never going to find them all in the one person.
Eric agrees that he is quite fussy.
