Drivers race through the streets of Clonakilty during a stage of the West Cork Rally.
One hundred and seventy five cars started the Zanusi West Cork Car Rally. The town of Clonakilty was closed off to traffic for a special stage through the streets..
The authorities obligingly closed the centre of Clonakilty last evening for the cars to put on a thrilling display for spectators.
.Drivers from Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland and the Isle of Man took part in the race.

Joe McHale, Maynooth, and Dougie Hoare, Lisburn, had the fastest times of 52 seconds through Clonakilty. Frank O'Mahony of Cork came in a second later. Richie Healy from Malahide and Vincent Mead from Cork dominated the stages today along with Ken McKinstry and Kevin Doyle from Belfast.
It's a thrilling sport as the drivers race for time through different stages.
The event was run by the Cork Motor Club providing a boost to tourism in the town.
