Golfer Shane Lowry has some fun and draws on his GAA background to win a Four Sports Challenge.

Marking their continued sponsorship of the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) and the Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU) the AIG insurance company organises the Four Sports Challenge at Carton House in County Kildare.

Taking part in the challenge are Dublin footballer Bernard Brogan, Dublin hurler Joey Boland, former Munster and All Black rugby player Dougie Howlett, and professional golfer Shane Lowry from Clara, County Offaly and 16-year-old Northern Irish golfer Olivia Mehaffey.

Each competitor must complete challenges in Gaelic football, hurling, rugby and golf. One challenge involves hitting a golf ball between GAA goalposts. Shane Lowry sends a wedge shot sailing towards the target but amusingly hits the upright.

However, Shane Lowry demonstrates his expertise in all four sports and is declared the winner. He admits he is not a hurling novice,

I played a bit when I was younger, we were more football though.

Shane Lowry's father Brendan won the 1982 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final with Offaly.

After 15 difficult months, Shane Lowry is not expecting to play on the European team at the 2014 Ryder Cup. His long-term plan is to,

Keep doing what I’ve been doing and keep focusing on the process and you know, see where I get from there.
