Cork City Council want to see more people cycling in the city.
There was free tea and coffee at the Grand Parade in Cork city centre for anyone who walked or cycled to work. The hot beverages were welcome by commuters.
The council is on a mission to make cycling trendier.
One young man tells RTÉ News that on fine days he is very surprised not to see more people on bikes.
Five years ago, six per cent of Irish people used to cycle to work. However, this figure has now dropped to less than one per cent.
The city council wants to ring in some change.
A spokesperson for Cork City Council says that the European initiative wants people think about cycling as an alternative to driving.
It's a very safe way to travel. It's fast and convenient.
The initiative to make cycling more popular continues for the week at various locations throughout the city.
