James Bond star Pierce Brosnan receives an honorary OBE at the British Ambassador's residence in Dublin.
The 50 year old Navan man was accompanied by his parents, three of his children and his granddaugher at the ceremony hosted by the British ambassador Stewart Eldon. Pierce Brosnan was surprised and flattered by the honour which is intended for non-British citizens who have contributed to British interests.
Pierce Brosnan is best known for his role as special British agent James Bond.
Ambassador Stewart Eldon paid tribute to the actor's 27 year film and television career as well as his support of charities such as UNICEF Ireland.
Speaking to RTÉ News after the ceremony, Pierce Brosnan said that when he got the call about the honour four months ago, he thought it was a friend of his pulling his leg.
