New express post and delivery business launches offering international same-day courier service.
The Department of Post & Telegraphs (P&T) express mail service operates out of Dublin airport. Radio control vans collect and deliver mail from selected post offices as well as from companies and private houses. The cost of the service varies depending on the weight of items and the number posted. Currently available to European destinations it is hoped that the service will eventually be extended to the United States, Japan and China.
Head of postal development at P&T Ross Hinds explains that the service is aimed primarily at business. He acknowledges that P&T are later to provide an express delivery service given that private courier companies are already operating in the market.
It is estimated around half a million items require rapid transmission between Ireland and the rest of Europe. Express Mail slice of that market could amount to one million pounds each year.
