A fun day out at Lettermore for the Galway Currach Racing Championships.
About 4,000 people from all parts of Connemara attend the annual Galway Currach Racing Championships held at Lettermore (Leitir Móir) in the Connemara Gaeltacht. Since the collapse of the national event, Lettermore is now the only place where competitive currach races takes place.
Crews from Carraroe (An Cheathrú Rua) and Oughterard compete in the final with Carraroe declared the winners. Carraroe also win the outboard motor boat event, a new event this year.
The programme for the day also includes an aeríocht, an outdoor event featuring performances of Irish dancing, singing and instrumental music.
