Champagne celebrations as the Irish land speed record is broken in Carrigrohane County Cork.
Dublin man Danny Keany set a new national land speed record on Cork's famous Carrigrohane Straight reaching a speed of 161.628 mph on his 750 cc four cylinder two stroke Yamaha motorbike.
Danny Keany who is the managing director of Danfay Distributors, the main Yahama importers in Ireland, set out to establish an official record and to improve on the speed of 143 mph recorded at Carrigrohane in 1953 by another Dubliner Garry Linsay.
Motor rally driver Rosemary Smith set a record for a car at a speed of 156.101 mph in a Jaguar XJ6. She does not feel there was any real danger to the spectators who lined the stretch of road to see the speed attempts.
