Deep sea dockers oppose amenity plan for Dublin port and bay.
Several hundred dockers marched in protest over Dublin Corporation plans for Dublin Bay which they fear will affect employment in the area.
Deep-sea dockers marched in protest.

Members of the Marine Port General Workers Union (MPGWU) led the march to the Custom House where a public inquiry was being held into making land around the port into a special amenity area. Dublin Corporation claim that their plans would protect key areas of Dublin Bay for public enjoyment and strongly deny that there would an affect on future employment in the port.
The amenity plan by Dublin City Councillor Sean Loftus would mean that areas like Sutton, the Bull Wall, Clontarf, Sandymount and Merrion Strand would be maintained as areas of recreation. The Dublin Port and Docks Board say the long term development of the port would be badly affected specifically in relation to land reclamation and new jobs.
