Harry Bradshaw shares some stories from a career playing professional golf.

Harry Bradshaw achieved success in the Canada Cup, the Ryder Cup, Dunlop Masters, and almost won the British Open. Still enjoying playing Harry Bradshaw gives lessons at Portmarnock Golf Club seven days a week.

He shares an amusing memory on his return by boat from the South African PGA. There was a putting competition on board the boat and Harry Bradshaw was drawn against a Mrs Morris who was unaware of the golfing credentials of her opponent. Harry Bradshaw did not let her know what he did for a living.

I'm afraid madam, I've never played before.

Mrs Morris proceeded to give him a lesson on how to hold the golf club and agreed not to take unfair advantage of him. Harry won their match and Mrs Morris advised him to take up putting.

You should take up putting. You've a wonderful touch.

Mrs Morris later discovered who Harry Bradshaw was.

Harry Bradshaw recalls his pride at winning the Dunlop Masters for the first time in 1953. The winning score was 69-68-69-66=272 with a margin of victory of 3 strokes. The runner-up was English golfer Max Faulkner who Harry Bradshaw describes as "a great comedian". Harry Bradshaw won the Dunlop Masters for a second time in 1955.

'Talk of Times Past' was broadcast on 31 August 1982. The presenter is Brendan O'Reilly.
