Minister for Tourism and Communications Máire Geoghegan-Quinn launches the first Dublin buses to carry advertisements in Irish.
At the Point Depot, Dublin, Minister for Tourism and Communications Máire Geoghegan-Quinn launches the first fleet of Irish language buses for Dublin Bus. Máire Geoghegan-Quinn believes the bus advertising is a great for the Irish language,
Is ócáid iontach don Ghaeilge, is ócáid tábhachtach don Ghaeilge, is ócáid dóchasach don Ghaeilge.
The Irish language initiative initially involves three buses, but a further seven buses will come on stream. The buses carry adverts for three companies, Coca-Cola, Superquinn and Castrol Oil. Their advertising campaign slogans are, Ní féidir an mothú a sháru (You can’t beat the feeling), Bia blasta ó Superquinn (Tasty food at Superquinn) and Castrol uimhir a haon! (Castrol number one!)
As with advertising as Gaeilge on television, the Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) series of advertisements in Irish comes with discounts for the companies involved.
