A range of international and Irish artistic expression at the Carlow Éigse Arts Festival.

Now in its 24th year the south east town of Carlow is hosting the Éigse Arts Festival which,

Has grown from humble beginnings to what is today a comprehensive programme of national and international visual arts, sculpture, music and film.

The 10 day festival includes visual art, craft, literature, and classical and contemporary musical events.

Australian poet Les Murray and Irish novelist John McGahern are attending the festival. Among the outdoor events planned are opera and storytelling workshops.

Éigse Festival Director Averyl Dooher says the event would not work without the goodwill of the Carlow community, volunteers, and the sponsors.

Irish Times art critic Aidan Dunne is a big fan of the work of British abstract painter Gillian Ayres who is exhibiting at the festival and encourages everyone to come to see her work.

The Éigse Festival is now considered one of the most important and dynamic arts festivals in the country.
