Items with a connection to Ireland's struggle for independence are to go to auction.

Among the 600 hundred items that will be auctioned are weaponry, helmets, uniforms, books, medals, posters, portraits and proclamations.

It is the letters featuring some of the central figures in the struggle for independence that are expected to attract the highest bidders.

The collection includes a letter from Patrick Pearse written the night before he was shot on 3 May 1916 to the commander of the British troops in Ireland General Maxwell. Stuart Cole Director of James Adams & Sons Auctioneers says that this item of enormous importance could fetch between eighty and a hundred thousand euro.

Another item, a mobilisation order from James Connolly is expected to make between thirty and fifty thousand euro. While these items are out of most people's price range, owning a piece of Irish history is not as expensive as you might think. Badges, buttons and newspapers are expected to fetch between one and two hundred euro when they go under the hammer.

A previous sale which took place last year saw almost 500 items sell for €3.5 million.
