Thirty marching bands from the United States, Britain, France and Ireland take part in the 21st Limerick International Band Competition.
The competition is part of a Limerick International Festival Weekend organised by Shannon Development.
25,000 spectators lined O'Connell Street in Limerick to see and hear the marching bands. The 80 member French military band, Musique de la Premiere Region Militaire was judged to be the overall winner of the competition. The event also featured the 180 member University of Illinois College Band who provided a recital in front of the VIP viewing platform outside the Royal George Hotel.
Mayor of Limerick Alderman of Limerick Jim Kemmy TD was among the onlookers in the viewing stand which also included members of the city and county councils and the Limerick Chamber of Commerce.
