Folk singer Liam Weldon performing at Bantry House in west Cork.

Presenter Donncha Ó Dúlaing introduces the programme by noting that the Georgian Bantry House in Bantry Bay, County Cork is inextricably linked to boats and sea voyages. It reminds him that,

Wherever adventure was to be found there was found the travelling Irish man.

Liam Weldon is a champion of Traveller rights with a keen interest in the songs and music of Travellers. His own lyrics reveal a strong awareness of poverty, disadvantage and exploitation.

In the early 1970s, Liam Weldon sang and played bodhrán in the band 1691 with Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Matt Molloy, Peter Brown and Tommy Peoples, who later went on to form The Bothy Band.
