A fleet of new double decker buses goes into operation in Dublin.
The first of the new buses goes into service on the 19A route between Ballymun Avenue and Rialto.
In total, CIÉ are adding 340 new double decker buses to its fleet. The buses, constructed at the CIÉ works in Inchicore, seat 78 passengers, 45 in the upper deck and 33 in the lower deck. The buses are built on Leyland Atlantean chassis with diesel powered rear engines. The buses have a completely new body design with entrance from the front and double folding doors operated by the driver.
The first passenger to try out the new buses is Lord Alderman Mayor of Dublin Eugene Timmons. He was accompanied by the Director and General Manager of CIÉ Frank Lemass.
