Republic of Ireland football fans have high hopes for World Cup qualification as their team take on the formidable French at Lansdowne Road.

Republic of Ireland football manager Brian Kerr has urged fans to get behind the team in their World Cup qualifier match against France at Lansdowne Road. Pre-match hopes are high as one supporter predicts the Republic of Ireland will beat France by two goals to nil. Another is convinced,

We're going to win 2 – 1.

According to one Irish fan, the return of Zinedine Zidane from retirement will not deter the Irish team as they have the youthful Robbie Keane on their side.

A supporter of Les Bleus is looking forward to the Lansdowne Road showdown,

It’s going to be a great atmosphere and good match.

Another French fan agrees,

Vive la France and it’s going to be a fantastic football game.

One French supporter warns,

Zinedine is back and he’s going to score a goal for us tonight.

However, it was a goal by Thierry Henry that gave France victory at Lansdowne Road with the final score Republic of Ireland 0 - 1 France.
