Dublin gets a grand new two thousand seat theatre.

The Grand Canal Theatre opens its doors for the first time with a performance of Swan Lake by the Russian Bolshoi Ballet who are joined by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Opening night for the country's latest and largest theatre.

President Mary McAleese the guest of honour for the official opening and was joined by a host of famous faces from the world of arts including, actor Brendan Gleeson, filmmaker John Boorman, and U2 manager Paul McGuinness.

Stephen Faloon,the general manager of The Grand Canal Theatre describes the opening production.

It is an absolutely spectacular and beautiful show.

Daniel Libeskind the architect of the new theatre building in Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock describes the inspiration for the venue as a "transparent curtain".  

Leaseholder Harry Crosbie is optimistic about the future of the theatre with over a hundred thousand tickets already sold for forthcoming productions.
