Families making hair curlers at home bring thousands of pounds to Kenmare in Kerry.
Around two hundred families in the Kenmare area are involved in curler making bringing in thousands of pounds to the area every year. The O'Sullivan family are just one family in the area who subsidise the household income from making hair curlers.
There must be more curlers per head of the population in Kenmare than in any other part of Ireland.
According to Mrs O'Sullivan, the family produces around twelve hundred thousand curlers every week earning around ten pounds. In a good month, they can earn up to sixty pounds. Six members of the O'Sullivan family spend their evenings and nights making curlers.
Now that Mrs O'Sullivan can afford to buy a turkey, she has given up rearing them.
