Joan Kennedy opens the Kennedy exhibition at the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Dublin.

A year after the assassination of former US President John F Kennedy, public interest in his life and family shows no sign of waning. Hundreds of people queued outside the Hugh Lane Gallery for the opening of the Kennedy library exhibition and to catch a glimpse of Joan Kennedy wife of Senator Edward Kennedy, brother of the late President.

The exhibition was opened in Dublin in association with the Kennedy Memorial Fund. Speaking at the opening Joan Kennedy explains the reason for bringing the exhibition to Ireland first.

The family felt that President Kennedy would have wanted this so because he felt such a wonderful affection for Ireland and he loved being here last year and we just knew that he would want to begin his exhibit here first.

She goes on to thank the Irish for the many wonderful letters of sympathy and support to the family received following the death of President John F Kennedy.
