A park dedicated to the memory of the late US President John F Kennedy will be created on 400 acres of Slieve Coillte in County Wexford.

The John F Kennedy Memorial Park will be created on a site located just three miles from Dunganstown, the ancestral home of the Kennedy family. Plans are to create a school of horticulture within the new park.

The formal documents of land ownership were presented to Fianna Fáil Minister for Lands Mr Michael Ó Morain at a special ceremony. The land was blessed by Father T Power. Michael Ó Morain is convinced that the late President Kennedy would be honoured by the plans for a new horticultural school on the estate.

It's something of scientific value, it's of educational value, it's going to help a lot of people and particularly it's going to help the local people here.

Professor EJ Clarke of University College Dublin believes the new horticultural school will offer better opportunities to train and equip young people to be more economically competitive in the world of horticulture.
