The Drifters are in Donegal for the annual Mary From Dungloe Festival.

Festival Chairman Pat Nora Gallagher has been working on the festival for the last twenty two years and hopes this year's festival will be enjoyed by all the family.

Some of the twenty four Marys were on hand for the official opening where the parish priest Fr Brendan McBride cut the ribbon.

I now declare the twenty second Mary from Dungloe Festival opened.

The 1988 Mary From Dungloe Maureen Connolly tells RTÉ News about her year as the holder of the title.

One of the highlights of the weekend was a performance by The Drifters with some locals taking up vantage points on rooftops and telephone boxes to catch a glimpse of the band.

The festival continues until 7 August with acts like Brendan Boyer and Daniel O'Donnell taking to the stage and the crowning of the 1989 Mary of Dungloe.

The festival is a million pound boost to the town of Dungloe.
