A replica of a Viking longship carries a special cargo for a Dublin children's hospital.
The Viking longship built in East Wall makes its return journey from Liverpool, with a scanner for Temple Street Hospital on board.
Built by the East Wall Water Sports Group to commemorate Dublin’s Millennium year, the 76 foot vessel is an exact replica of the 9th century Gokstad ship in Norway.
Her maiden journey was to Liverpool, to collect a scanner for Temple Street Children’s Hospital, paid for by funds raised by workers from the ESB (Electricity Supply Board).
The ship’s crew and its cargo arrived safely in back in Dublin on board the 25-tonne ship, built from Irish oak, larch and pine. Having spent almost 60 hours at sea, they had time to think about their next challenge,
Their next plan, they say, is to row to Norway next year.
