Plans to make Brittas Bay in County Wicklow a prime seaside spot.

Counties Dublin and Wicklow are joining forces to acquire and develop 50 acres of sand dunes at Brittas Bay. New toilet facilities and car parking are planned.

The £26,000 Dublin share of the costs will be carried by Dublin Corporation who will pay over £16,000; Dublin County Council who will pay over £8,000 and Dun Laoghaire Corporation who will pay over £1,500.

A similar joint venture was carried out in 1973 when 80 acres of sand dunes were acquired. At the time a survey showed that Dubliners accounted for 92 per cent of the visitors to Brittas Bay during the summer months.

All that's needed for success, is a touch of sun.
