Celebrations mark the switching on of the electricity supply on Inishbiggle Island off the coast of Mayo.
Minister for Gaeltacht Denis Gallagher arrives on Inishgibble Island to perform one of his first official functions, the switching on of the island's electricity supply. Also in attendance is Mayo Fine Gael TD, Enda Kenny.
The Islanders lit candles at a ceremony of remembrance of generations of islanders who lived without electricity. After the ceremony, Minister Gallagher formally switched on the new electricity supply to applause from the islanders and guests. Celebrations continued with a dance in the newly illuminated yard of the Inishbiggle Island school.
