Preparations are underway for the 9th annual Ballyshannon Folk Festival.

A giant marquee which holds around 2,000 people is set up to host the performers during the festival. The lineup includes Freddie White, Maura O'Connell, Liam O'Flynn and many more. It is estimated that around 15,000 people will visit Ballyshannon during the festival providing a well needed financial injection to the town.

Chief Officer of the festival Anthony Travers tells RTÉ News that the festival was initially set up

To promote Ballyshannon as a venue for traditional Irish music.

This year the focus will be on the educational aspects of traditional Irish music and dance with workshops on set dancing as well as fiddle playing and traditional singing. The workshops are being provided as a result of Arts Council funding.
