Files in the National Archives of Ireland may help Irish born children adopted in the USA.
Files have been discovered in the National Archives with details of over 1,500 Irish-born children adopted in the United States more than thirty years ago. The files date between the period 1948 to 1962.
Maggie Butler who was sent to the USA for adoption in the 1950s is just one of the many people who might learn something about her natural mother from the files.
One of the country's leading childcare organisations Barnardos has welcomed the discovery of the files. Norah Gibbons from Barnardos comments
I wonder if there are more files elsewhere.
