Mayo man and Taoiseach Charles Haughey returns to the place of his birth in Castlebar, County Mayo to be honoured with the unveiling of a plaque on his family home.
On 28 September 1980 an Taoiseach Charles Haughey attends the unveiling of a plaque in his honour at his birthplace in Castlebar, county Mayo. The plaque was unveiled by Monsignor James Horan, Parish Priest of Knock.
Mr. Haughey and his wife were greeted by crowds as they walked through Castlebar accompanied by a pipe band.
In his address to the crowd, Haughey stressed the need for an urgent solution to the problems in Northern Ireland.
