The 1985 Community Games opens at Mosney Holiday Camp with a parade of counties.

Following the symbolic lighting of the community games torch, the oath is read.

Our aim shall not be victory at any price but we shall genuinely seek to unite our community in a friendly, sporting competition.

The finals were declared open by the President of the Community Games William Walsh.

Over 5,000 young people from around Ireland participate in the Community Games finals. Representatives from the worlds of sport and politics are in attendance at the opening ceremony, including the Lord Mayor of Dublin Jim Tunney, and the Mayor of Drogheda Con O'Brien. The Garda band provides musical entertainment at the opening ceremony.
