Crowds gather in Waterford as it hosts the 2005 Tall Ships race.
Ships from more than 20 countries gathered off Dunmore East to begin racing. Waterford City hosted a festival in celebration, visited by around 350,000 people.
Reporter Damien Tiernan visited on 8 July 2005, ahead of a fireworks display to be held that night. One of the biggest attractions was a dancing Indonesian crew.
According to Nicholas Fewer, Chairman of Waterford Tall Ships Race:
This is the biggest event that this country will see this year. It is certainly the biggest event that Waterford has ever witnessed.
