Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band start their European tour at a sold out Slane Castle.

The crowd of 65,000 was the largest Springsteen had played before. Tickets for the concert were £15 and the event had attracted national and international celebrities including Pete Townsend and Tony Hadley.

When Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band came on stage at 5 pm the welcome was deafening. A warm summer day, the size of the crowd and the general excitement resulted in a few people fainting. Overall Gardai and security reported that the crowd was well behaved.
