A new seven million pound proposal for a marina at Dun Laoghaire harbour was unveiled in 1989.
The plans for the development involve the demolition of the existing structure on the mail boat pier and its replacement with a promenade lined with bars, restaurants, shops, a heritage centre and a lifeboat base. The pier is to be redeveloped as a public leisure amenity. The development plans include a 300-berth marina which will be rented out at a cost of £1,000 per year.
This RTÉ News report shows a model of the proposed marina development, which is planned for Carlisle Pier.
Reporter Maggie O'Kane speaks to Brian Barry of the National Yacht Club and Betty Coffey of Dun Laoghaire Corporation about the plans.
It is hoped that the project will be completed by 1993.
