  • Philip Jordan

Former Tyrone defender and three-time All-Ireland winner

    Follow@philipjordan7

Moy man Philip Jordan won four All-Stars as a wing-back on the hugely successful Tyrone team that claimed All-Ireland titles in 2003, 2005 and 2008.

'There is more emphasis on the player as an athlete now and that's something we see in every sport'

People complain but Gaelic football is as good as ever

Philip Jordan has no truck with the notion that standard of inter-county football has never been lower and that modern players don't even have the basic skills of the game.

'Under-21 is the best indicator of what young footballers are capable of going on to achieve'

'I wasn't good enough to make minor and U21 teams'

Tyrone won All-Ireland Under-21 football titles 2000 and 2001 and those teams formed the backbone of the sides that went on to win Sam Maguire in '03, '05 and '08.

'They might have regained their composure, but they let us all see what it meant to them.'

Kerry celebrations showed how much Dubs win meant

It was interesting to see the Kerry players immediately after the final whistle in the League final on Sunday.

'Dublin are a serious team but they are as cynical as anyone out there'

Fitzmaurice has started the mind games with Dublin

I was delighted to hear Eamonn Fitzmaurice come out and push back a little bit against Dublin in his media conference on Tuesday.

'His game was always built around skill, using his football brain and a bit of genius'

Colm Cooper's the greatest I've seen

I have an admission to make and it might not go down too well in my home county - I think Colm Cooper is the greatest footballer I have ever seen.

Kerry need a good League campaign to help kick-start a summer run

    Jordan: Kerry need defensive improvements

When most of the top teams are rebuilding they can be expected to reach the All-Ireland quarter-finals and maybe win the odd provincial title. That's not good enough for Kerry.

Jordan believes the 'Super 8' system will have a negative impact on the club scene

Philip Jordan: Super 8 decision a backward move

The changes to the football championship will create an elite grouping and will do little to improve the life of the club player, writes Philip Jordan.

    GAA • 02 May 17
The problem, as far as I am concerned, is the lack of regular football for club players.

Philip Jordan: GAA changes need to go further

There's no point in change for the sake of change - and I think that's what the GAA are doing with their new Championship proposals. They don't go far enough.

'Sometimes people get caught up in this thinking that every win is the best thing ever and every loss is a disaster'

Philip Jordan: Rumours of Mayo demise exaggerated

Mayo's rollercoaster start to the season reminds us that no serious contender's chances should be judged in February, writes our football analyst Philip Jordan.

    GAA • 16 Feb 17
'What Dublin have done, going 30 games unbeaten, isn't something I'd ever have seen a team doing in modern football'

Philip Jordan: Dublin run may be about to end

To paraphrase Kevin Keegan, Tyrone would love if it if they could beat Dublin at Croke Park this weekend!
