Both radio and television gave wide coverage of the week of ceremonies commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising. The week of ceremonies began with a reading of the Proclamation of the Republic at the General Post Office, Dublin, followed by a military parade. In the presence of a distinguished gathering, including many survivors of the Rising, President, Eamon de Valera, took a salute as units of the Defence Forces converged on O'Connell Street from points associated with the different garrisons of Easter Week and marched past the GPO. |
