A comparison between city offices in Dublin and York, and a public discussion on Wood Quay at the Mansion House.
A report on the current working conditions at Dublin Corporation offices. "A wilderness of second-hand, second-rate and over-crowded buildings". A comparison is made with the conditions in another Viking site in York, England which has faced the challenge of balancing urban development with archaeological preservation. While the Viking site in York is considered less valuable than the Dublin site, it has been extensively excavated under the auspices of a specially created Trust.
Meanwhile back in Dublin a public meeting is taking place to discuss the Wood Quay site. The meeting is attended by members of the Friends of Medieval Dublin, historians, archaeologists, as well as members of the general public with an interest in preserving the city's Viking cultural heritage.
