Four hundred new jobs will be created by two American computer companies.

The new jobs will be created at Applied Magnetics Corporation, a world leader in the manufacturing of recording heads for computers, and Lotus the software development company which currently employs over 200 people in the north of the city.

Ten million pounds is being invested by the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and the companies involved to create these jobs.

Valerie Dunphy from Waterford is a computer engineer who has worked for Lotus since the beginning of this year. A computer science graduate, she converts Lotus software for different types of computers, and describes the company's customer support as a,

Sophisticated electronic mail messaging system. We have an instant response time to any country in the world.

Lotus is a progressive employer that values diversity says Valerie Dunphy, and the relaxed working environment is also a plus,

You can dress casually, rather than wearing a suit.

Ralph Brown director of Unix development at Lotus says that Irish third level institutions are turning out graduates with the type of computer science background required by industry,

Localisation and Unix require brainpower…I'm very pleased with the graduates that we find.
