Local people and visitors enjoy the unexpected arrival of a pod of dolphins to the Waterford Estuary.
In the early morning and late afternoon, as many as 50 common dolphins, including 6 claves, swim with the boats in the Waterford Estuary.
This marvellous and unusual sight is found between Cheekpoint and Passage East where the River Suir meets the sea at Wexford Harbour.
Local boat owner Jimmy Foley has never seen anything like it.
Dolphin experts say a phenomenon such as this is very rare.
Kevin McCormick of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group believes the mild weather and an increase in sprat in the waters have led the dolphins up the coast to the Waterford Estuary. It seems the sprats have dispersed so,
It's very unusual for them to hang around because normally they would chase their prey and follow it wherever they go.
