Part of an ambitious plan for a zero emission fleet, Dublin Bus puts hybrid electric vehicles on the road.

Dublin Bus pledges to have its entire fleet operating at zero emissions by 2050. This announcement comes as the company puts the first of its hybrid electric vehicles on the road.

Dubin Bus currently has 14 plug-in hybrid electric buses and another six are due soon. It plans to have a fully electric bus route within 3 years. The company admits its target of having zero emissions on its whole fleet by 2050 is ambitious as emissions have been reduced by just 5% since 2017.

Dublin Bus Head of Environmental, Health and Safety, Colin Ward expects that due to the introduction of the additional fleet over time,

All new vehicles will be hybrid or fully electric.

Dublin Bus expects to increase its fleet by 330 buses, or a third, by 2027 in anticipation of increased demand because of the Bus Connects project.

Dublin Bus trialled a hydrogen vehicle but is not perusing this technology further.
