Hoping to be one of the chosen few at the 'Big Brother' auditions in Dublin.

Since the Channel 4 reality show 'Big Brother' hit the screens in 2000, a number of Irish contestants have taken part. Anna Nolan was the first Irish person to enter the house in Series 1. Over the show's six seasons, housemates from the island of Ireland include Tom McDermott, Brian Dowling, Ray Shah, Mary O'Leary and Orlaith McAllister. Brian Dowling was crowned the winner of series 2 in 2001. The show's executive producer, Paul Osbourne, explains

Irish housemates have been historically very successful in 'Big Brother' history.

Hoping to emulate this success, hundreds of people turn up to audition for the 7th series of 'Big Brother' at the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) in Dublin. Producers asked for a cross-section of the public. They certainly got that with a plethora of costume-clad hopefuls queuing in the RDS. There is no shortage of self-belief among those auditioning.

I'm a celebrity in Cabra, I want to be on 'Big Brother'.

The unsuccessful left in good spirits.

It was a good experience, I suppose you can always come back next year.

Successful participants will be called back to go through a further selection process before the series begins in May 2006.

In 2006, DJ Spiral (Glen Coroner) from Finglas in Dublin entered the 'Big Brother' house as a latecomer, via the 'House Next Door' twist.
