Something Happens perform their award-winning song 'Parachute' on 'The Late Late Show'.
In his introduction to a performance of ‘Parachute’ by Dublin band Something Happens, Gay Byrne remarks,
They're up and flying, they're doing well, they're extremely popular.
Something Happens are vocalist Tom Dunne, guitarist Ray Harman, bassist Alan Byrne and drummer Eamonn Ryan. ‘Parachute’ is the second single from the band’s second studio album ‘Stuck Together with God's Glue’.
Following the performance, Gay Byrne surprises the band with news that ‘Parachute’ has won the Smithwicks/Hot Press Music Critics Awards for Best Irish Single for 1990.
And these boys beat off Sinéad O'Connor and The Saw Doctors.
Something Happens will be presented with the award at a ceremony at the Stillorgan Park Hotel in Dublin on 30 January 1991.
On 18 May 1990, Gay Byrne played 'Parachute' on his radio show when reporter Joe Duffy completed a parachute jump live on the programme at the Irish Parachute Club (IPC) airfield in Clonbullogue, County Offaly.
