The environmental crusader with a long name to highlight his campaign is the new Lord Mayor of Dublin.

The long time environmental campaigner and independent councillor Seán Dublin Bay Rockall Loftus is the new Lord Mayor of Dublin.

Dublin Bay is where he made his name and Dublin Bay is in his name.

He travelled to City Hall by boat from his home in Clontarf continuing to highlight his long time campaign for three stage sewage treatment to clean up the Dublin bay area.

Seán Loftus initially included Dublin Bay in his name to promote this cause and intends to keep it there until the three stage sewage treatment is introduced. The Rockall part of his name is part of a campaign to persuade the Irish government to make a legal claim over Rockall, 400 miles off the coast of Donegal.

Seán Loftus got into local politics to campaign against Dublin Corporation building a causeway that resulted in the silting up of a small bay in Clontarf. He went on to campaign against the building of an oil refinery in Dublin Bay. He believes in the concept of strong local government with executive mayors.

At Capel Street Bridge, Seán Loftus climbed ashore and made his way to City Hall. He takes over from the Green Party's John Gormley in the role of Lord Mayor.
