Lansdowne Road the site of many rugby and soccer memories has a new arena, the Aviva Stadium.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen had the honour of opening the stadium in the company of Republic of Ireland football manager Giovanni Trapattoni and Ireland rugby coach Declan Kidney.

Chief Executive of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) Philip Browne is optimistic that the new stadium will provide a cracking atmosphere at matches. Chief Executive Officer of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), John Delaney, recalls great days at the old Lansdowne Road stadium hopes new memories will be made at the new Aviva Stadium.
The stadium was completed on time and slightly under budget at €410 million. €191 million was provided by the government. The first game at the stadium will be a rugby match between the combined provinces on 31 July.
