Met Éireann says most of Ireland will have a clear night sky to see the last full moon of the century.
Astronomers believe the full moon tonight could be the most dazzling of the century because it will be nearer the earth than normal. Both the earth and the moon are approaching their closest point to the sun which happens on 3 January.
According to astronomers, it will be a sight worth seeing. Appearing 14 per cent bigger than usual, the moon will also seem brighter.
Cloud which has covered the country for most of today is due to clear giving good views of the moon by around 10 o'clock.
Even at its brightest, the light of the moon is only the equivalent of a 15 watt lightbulb.
