Danger for fire brigade crews and local residents from a fire at a gas storage facility in Dublin port.
The blaze started at the Calor Kosangas premises when a gas supply line became damaged, and quickly spread to other parts of the site a fuel storage depot housing gas storage tanks and domestic gas cylinders.
Massive explosions shook the port.
Several units from the Dublin Fire Brigade fought the blaze and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring fuel storage facilities. Flames continued to light up the night sky until the fire was brought under control in the early hours of the morning.
Sound recordist Michael Walsh who was working with the RTÉ News crew was injured by a piece of flying metal and taken to hospital.
Company officials began to assess the damage this morning at the site. The local community says there is a need for better contingency plans to deal with fires in the port.
