Awards in a wide range of categories presented for online excellence created by Irish websites.
The Golden Spider Internet Awards are offered in categories ranging from best business application to web design of the year.
Online and on course to be acknowledged as the best in their field in 1999.
Sutton Park School and their website Mission:Possible won the Internet Young Person's Award. Rory Byrne of Sutton Park School explains the background to the website which started out as a small school project aimed at helping the environment. They decided to use the internet as a medium to spread information about environmental issues.
RTÉ News Online won the award for information excellence. Launched in February 1999. Luke McManus, website producer at RTÉ, says that the advantage this website has is the quantity of information available and the fact that it is updated so regularly.
I think the internet has gone from being an accessory, if you like, to being a core part of a lot of media businesses.
The award for best community website went to Sligo.ie. Nico Goicaard who designed the website says it provides an online presence for Sligo.
Other winners include Labyrinth for web design of the year and Redcafe.net won the best personal website award.
