For the second year in a row, the Eurovision Song Contest will be in Ireland this time in Dublin.

Following the success of the Eurovision at Millstreet in Cork, regional cities like Galway and Limerick were hoping to host the event this year. It was not to be as Dublin was chosen as the host and The Point Depot the venue.

25 countries will once again converge on Dublin's waterside venue for this 40th Eurovision Song Contest.

Niamh Kavanagh won the 1993 contest with the song 'In Your Eyes' meaning that Ireland would once again host Eurovision. This was the fifth time for Ireland to win the contest.

Liam Miller, says RTÉ would like to produce more programmes outside the capital. On this occasion, for logistical and economic reasons, Dublin was chosen for the Eurovision Song Contest production.
